On top of an 80-foot wave. Christ almighty.

Ireland is home to some of the most spectacular waves in the world but we reckon that you've never seen anything quite like this. Brazilian surfer Roderigo Koxa has smashed the world record after he rode an 80ft (24.4m) wave off the coast of Portugal. Officials have now confirmed it as the largest recorded wave ever surfed. Koxa surfed an 80ft (24.4-metre) wave at Nazaré in Portugal on 8 November 2017 and he has since been awarded the Guinness World Record for the biggest wave ever surfed at the World Surf League's Big Wave Awards on Saturday night.

The previous record was set by Garrett McNamara back in 2011, with a wave of 78 feet.

As Koxa accepted the award he said that setting the record was "the best day of my life."
