We did it!

It wasn’t easy for our quitters and we thought this day might never come at times, yet here we are. The Quit to Fit challenge has finally come to an end.

10 weeks ago, we teamed up with NiQuitin and chose four groups to be the face of this campaign. Through an intensive programme of motivation and challenges, we wanted to help them to improve their health, get active and kick the cigarettes once and for all.

Our weekly challenges ranged from boxercise classes to hiking and everything in between. Our life coach Raul Aparici was on hand with weekly motivation to keep our teams focused and on track.

While some weeks were more of a struggle than others, each group demonstrated incredible resilience to keep at it over the course of the 10 weeks.

You’ll excuse us if we use the cheesiest line in the book by saying that they’re all winners, having made it to the finish line. But of course we had to pick an actual winner to give the prize to.

After much deliberation, we’ve chosen Yvonne Dolan and Gordon Fahy from Galway as our victorious pair.

Week 4 – Challenge hiking #quittofit

We chose them as our winners because of their overall fitness progress from the Vo2 tests, the contents of their social media posts and the motivation, dedication and enthusiasm that they gave throughout the challenges. Yvonne spoke to us on her reaction to winning the challenge:

“We really enjoyed the 10 Week Quit to Fit Challenge, we’ve completed so many activities over the last 10 weeks that took us out of our comfort zone, we even went for a cycle around London, something that we would never tried before this challenge!

Now that the challenge is over we have tried to keep it going, for example we recently climbed Croagh Patrick, I remember the first time that we climbed it about six years ago, we were so unfit and had to stop every 20 minutes to take a break and took me nearly five hours in the end but this time we flew up and down in three hours flat!

We both work very hard now at getting to the gym about three to four times a week and I’m addicted to Tabata and Pilates! It was evident when we did the V02 testing at the start of the challenge and at the end that the hard work had paid off. We both had significant improvements with Gordon increasing his oxygen consumption by 20%! We are so glad that we have changed our lives around and are no longer couch potatoes in and out for a cigarette every hour. NiQuitin has helped us beat the cravings and we are on the right path to enjoy a healthier and fitter future.”

As a well-deserved reward, the pair will be jetting off on a fitness holiday in the Gran Canaria in the coming weeks.

Congratulations again to everyone involved. If you followed along, we hope the 10 weeks helped you to become fitter, healthier and smoke-free!
