First there was Joxer, then there was ‘Put em under Pressure’. Now, we have the ‘Trap Rap’, which looks set to be the unofficial Irish football anthem for Euro 2012.
Sports fans in this country are quick to jump on a bandwagon and celebrate an event with a piece of musical inspiration, whether it’s some of the more ill-advised anthems that have been penned prior to All-Ireland Finals or the Irish team’s appearance on the Late Late ahead of their trip to Euro ’88.
True to form, with qualification for Euro 2012 in the bag, a clever chap by the name of DJ Uachtaráin has taken a simple message from Giovanni Trapattoni urging Irish fans to be the 12th player and to get behind the Boys in Green and set it seamlessly to the detestable ‘Dragostea din tei’, or the ‘Numa Numa’ song, released by Moldovan pop outfit the O-Zone in 2004.
Although the song itself is an affront to the ears, it’s amusing to look at the way Trapattoni’s words have been synced to the music, while there’s a nice little montage looking back on all the highlights from the qualifying campaign.
If this video had come out a week ago it would surely have been pilloried, but the man can do no wrong in the eyes of Irish fans at the moment.
