JOE Gaming Weekly – You should play Dying Light 2, but not right now

Rory Cashin

Fans of the horror series might want to see how things play out…

Welcome to JOE Gaming Weekly, your weekly round-up of all things gaming.

Or, specifically, the one big game you should play this week, the one big piece of gaming news you need to know about, and the one big deal available to purchase this week.

So off we go!

MUST PLAY OF THE WEEK

Dying Light 2

The sequel to 2015’s surprisingly good survival horror parkour game has arrived, but you should maybe hold off a little bit before picking it up.

While the open world of the story is as expansive and dense as you might have hoped for – which will apparently take up to 500 hours to complete – there are multiple reports of high amounts of bugs and glitches throughout.

IGN notes that the Day One patch will feature over 1,000 fixes, so chances are that it won’t be the monumental glitch-fest for players that Cyberpunk 2077 was when it was released, but it might also be worth your while checking to see if the Day One patch has resolved the majority of the issues before deciding to purchase it.

Dying Light 2 is available on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, PC and Switch from Friday, 4 February.

BIG NEWS OF THE WEEK

Sony has purchased Bungie for $3.6 billion

Not even two weeks since Microsoft announced its acquisition of Activision, Sony has followed suit and bought up their own gaming production house: Bungie.

Yep, while the Xbox crew took away the creators of Crash Bandicoot from Sony, PlayStation has only gone and snapped up the company behind Halo, essentially the launchpad game that made people sit up and pay attention to the original Xbox back in the day.

Bungie is also behind the Destiny series, but what they might have in store for PS players remains to be seen.

However, in a statement on the acquisition, it has been confirmed that Bungie will continue to be a multi-platform developer, so Xbox players won’t be cut off from Bungie’s games completely.

Jim Ryan, the president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said on the PS Blog:

“Bungie’s world-class expertise in multi-platform development and live game services will help us deliver on our vision of expanding PlayStation to hundreds of millions of gamers.”

DEAL OF THE WEEK

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

The folks behind the not-very-good-at-all Marvel’s Avengers game had something to prove with their next outing featuring some of the most famous superheroes in the world, and so they pulled out all the stops with their take on the intergalactic antiheroes.

Some very fun gameplay tied to an impressively epic story and, at times, some truly jaw-dropping visuals.

Oh, and arguably one of the greatest soundtracks for any video game. Ever.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is available on the PS Store marked down from €69.99 to €41.99 until Wednesday, 9 February.
