Fans might lose their minds a little bit when they see who pops up in the trailer.

Since being launched in 2016, the augmented reality mobile game Pokémon GO had been downloaded over ONE BILLION times. Yes, billion. With a b.

So to say it was a massive success is a bit of an understatement, and even if it wasn’t to your particular gaming tastes, there is no denying that it struck a chord with what turned out to be around a seventh of the entire planet’s population.

Niantic, the developers of that game, had since been working on a follow-up, but it was difficult to imagine what source material could provide as popular a built-in fan-base as Pokémon.

It seemed like a bit of a match made in heaven when it was announced they would be working with J.K. Rowling’s wonderful world of wizardry, but while the new AR mobile game has been in development for some time, there had been no set release date for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.

The game’s official website told fans that they would get to “explore real-world neighbourhoods and cities to discover mysterious artefacts, learn to cast spells, and encounter legendary beasts and iconic characters along the way”, and then out of nowhere, they’ve announced that the game will be available this week.

The launch trailer was dropped early on Wednesday morning, showing how your phone essentially becomes your new wand, and you’ll be finding fantastic beasts, battling evil death-eaters, and everything in between.

And, yep, there is a special appearance by a certain famous wizard at the end of the trailer, which, if we’re being honest, made us flip out a little bit…

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be available to download and play on pretty much all mobile devices from Friday 21 June.
