There is a new Earthworm Jim game on the way

Guuuuuuhhhhrooooovy!

It has been 25 years since Earthworm Jim first appeared on the Sega Mega Drive, and an entire generation became suitably obsessed with an earthworm, named Jim, who uses a superpowered suit and even-more-superpowered gun decided to… wait, what exactly was the plot of Earthworm Jim again?

Maybe it didn’t really matter, because we accepted a high-speed blue hedgehog and a dimension-travelling plumber without blinking an eye, so none of this felt all that out of place.

Regardless, it was clear that someone was paying attention to early-career Jim Carrey at the time, because Earthworm Jim (oh… we just got that they’re both named Jim) was obviously based on him in some way, even more so in the short-run TV series that followed on from the immensely popular game series.

It has been a minute since we’ve last heard from Jim, his last game came out in 1995, and the show’s second season finished up in 1996, but for folk of a certain vintage, they’ll be very happy to hear that there is a new Earthworm Jim game on the way, and from the makers of the original game no less!

However, there is a bit of a catch – the game will only be available to play on the new Amico Intellivision console due October 2020.

You can find out more about that console right here, but for those looking for a whack of nostalgia, here is the opening credits (complete with incredibly catchy theme song) for the Earthworm Jim series:
