WATCH: RoboCop Rogue City is the game fans have been waiting over 30 years for

Rory Cashin

It will be the first RoboCop game for consoles in 20 years!

Believe it or not, the very first RoboCop movie arrived in cinemas 35 years ago this month, and the cultural impact of the character is still very much felt to this day.

The original movie is still an absolute classic, but then we got two sequels, a remake, four TV shows and eight video games (including one called RoboCop Versus The Terminator), none of which have come close to the quality of that first outing.

However, we could finally be getting an entry in the franchise that could match that movie with RoboCop: Rogue City.

Peter Weller is returning to voice Murphy/RoboCop himself, with the events of the first-person shooter taking place after RoboCop 3, and it is coming from developers Teyon (who were behind the very under-appreciated Terminator: Resistance) and publishers Nacon (who also have The Lord of the Rings: Gollum coming out this year).

The official synopsis for the game is as follows:

“Welcome to Detroit; crime runs rampant as the city lies on the edge of ruin, people fighting for scraps as others live extravagant lives of luxury. Control of the Detroit Police Department is given to the Omni Consumer Products corporation in an attempt to restore order. You are that solution, RoboCop, a cyborg tasked with protecting the city.

“The triumphant return of RoboCop wouldn’t feel right without the man who brought so much life into the role, and we’re excited to reveal that Peter Weller will be performing voiceover work on the game. Enjoy this first look at gameplay and for the record, ‘Dead or alive, you’re coming with me!'”

RoboCop: Rogue City will arrive on PC and consoles in June 2023. Check out the very violent trailer (which features an ED-209 cameo!) right here:
