The Sims will be free for everyone to download and play

This is NOT a drill…

The Sims 4 goes free to play today, which means you can play the base game for absolutely nothing.

How you played The Sims says a lot about you and your personality. Did you want to build the home you’ve always wanted, slowly seduced by capitalism’s allure, chasing that next, more expensive sofa or lamp, that you just knew would finally bring your sims happiness?

Or did you concentrate on the relationships, cultivating social harmony between your digital subjects?

If you have yet to experience this, as announced last month, The Sims 4 is going free to play on Tuesday (18 October).

This means that players can download The Sims 4 base game for free and just purchase the expansions and kits they want to add to the base game like usual.

This new way to play will be available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. Basically, nearly everywhere.

To get started, all you need to do is download The Sims 4 (from 18 October) for free via the new EA app, Origin, or Steam. The same goes for the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store.

The Sims 4 has been out since 2014 and although pretty much everyone who wanted to buy it has probably got it by now, there is still a bonus for the OG fan – but you need to act fast to claim it as the offer ends once the game goes free to play. To claim the Desert Luxe Kit, you must select the free add-on via The Sims 4 main menu.

This is just one of the exciting things Sims fans can look forward to experiencing. EA is also holding the Behind The Sims Summit on Tuesday at 6PM.

The event will be live-streamed tomorrow via YouTube and Twitch and will showcase what’s in the works for The Sims series.
