Spider-Man 2 reveals incredible new story trailer

Spider-Man 2

The hugely anticipated sequel will be top of every gamer’s Christmas lists this year.

The sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man and 2020’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, it feels like we’ve been waiting a long time for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. But judging from the brand new story trailer that Sony have released during San Diego Comic Con, it looks like it will have been well worth the wait…

Things kick off peacefully enough, with (some mild spoilers from the previous Spider-Man games ahead) a now fully healed Harry Osborne out and about, hanging with his BFF Peter Parker. Miles Morales is also there, concerned that Parker’s new job will cut into their “tutoring” timetable. But it isn’t long before all hell breaks loose…

Yep, we see that both Kraven The Hunter (who is soon getting his own live action movie) and Venom The Symbiote (here voiced by Candyman himself Tony Todd) are the primary antagonists this time around, but we also get a glimpse at Mister Negative, who was the big bad in the Miles Morales sequel. And we’re pretty sure we saw one or two more famous Spidey villains throughout the trailer, too…

Sony released a big press release on the sequel (full thing here), including new abilities and new sections of New York that you can freely explore in the game, but this bit on the twist their giving to Venom really caught our attention:

“When we decided to craft a Venom story, we knew we’d be making a bit of a tone shift. The best symbiote stories serve as an allegory: We all have darkness inside of us – but what would happen if we let it take over? With the introduction of the symbiote into our franchise, our heroes are forced to battle darkness, in all its forms. We wanted to see them change, both inside and outside, and feel the effect it has on those around them. And when Venom takes control, they face the real danger that they could lose themselves, and their loved ones, forever.”

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will arrive exclusively on PlayStation 5 on Friday, 20 October this year. And speaking of exclusively on PS5, Sony have also revealed a limited edition console and Dual Sense controller, and we’re gonna be very honest here, they both look INCREDIBLY cool…
