Best-selling ‘masterpiece’ PS5 game slashed by 45% in limited time deal

'Takes you back to the old-school feel of the first game'

Amazon has slashed the PlayStation edition of Final Fantasy XVI by 45%, taking the price to just €21.39.

It marks the sixteenth - and latest - mainline entry in the Final Fantasy series and was originally released in 2023.

The game is set in the twin continents of Valisthea, currently divided between six nations who hold power through access to magical Crystals and Dominants, humans who act as hosts for each nation's Eikon.

Tensions between the nations escalate as a magical drought dubbed the Blight begins consuming the land.

Clive Rosfield, guardian to his younger brother Joshua, witnesses his kingdom destroyed and becomes involved in the growing conflict between Valisthea's nations and a secret power driving the war.

Upon its release the game was praised by critics for its story, graphics, music, and gameplay and went on to sell more than 3 million copies during its first week alone.

More than 1,300 customers have tried and tested the game, giving it an average rating of 4.6 stars on Amazon.

One said in their five star review: "Fantastic game, great story and visuals. Bought the physical version on sale and saved a lot compared to the digital price. Very happy with the purchase."

Another wrote: "This Final Fantasy takes you back to the old-school feel of the first game but with beautiful visuals, an incurable story, and amazing gameplay! 

"The world-building of Final Fantasy 16 is amazing, a wonderful breath of fresh air of a different side of the Final Fantasy universe. I've spent around 45 hours on this game and I wish they made this game 100 hours long because there are parts of the game you want to understand more and get into the details!".

While a third called it a 'masterpiece' writing: "Absolutely phenomenal in every way!! It was one of the most memorable and amazing experiences I've had in gaming to this day!! The story was very dark and emotional, this is Final Fantasy at its peak!!".
