The first reviews for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order have finally arrived

There was an embargo on all reviews until today, the day the game is released.

Normally, when a review embargo isn’t taken down until the day of release, it is because of one of two reasons.

Either the thing being reviewed is terrible, or the thing being reviewed is full of potential spoilers.

Thankfully, in the case of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the first reviews have confirmed that it isn’t the former.

Set five years after Emperor Palpatine’s Order 66 in Revenge Of The Sith (when they ordered all potential Jedi to be killed before becoming properly trained), you control one of the last surviving Jedi trainees, Padawan Cal Kestis, as he continues to be hunted by trained killers sent by the Empire.

After the less-than-fantastically-well-received, latest generation versions of the Star Wars: Battlefront series, which put multiplayer ahead of the single-player experience, it looks like things have been course-corrected for this outing, as just a handful of reviews will attest to:

IGN – “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order makes up for a lot of lost time with a fantastic single-player action-adventure that marks the return of the playable Jedi. 9/10”

The Guardian – “In relaunching a much-loved and much-missed Star Wars genre, Fallen Order does exactly what it set out to. It reaches the bar, but then stops, with a set of characters and adventures that are not particularly intriguing or fresh, but certainly feel like they come from that very particularly galaxy, far, far away. 8/10”

TrueGaming – “This game is definitely a dream come true for Star Wars fans. Even if you are not one of them, do not miss out on this mix of thrilling battles and engaging exploration produced to a level which definitely proved that Respawn are one of the best developers in our current time. 9/10”

GameSpot – “It’s true that Fallen Order borrows liberally from other action games, but those elements work together with Respawn’s combat and environment design, and a story that finds humanity in the Force and in its characters, to hone in on what makes the world of Star Wars worthy of revisiting again and again. Even with some rough edges, Fallen Order represents one of the most compelling game additions to the Star Wars franchise in years. 8/10”

Polygon – “Jedi: Fallen Order is a flawed, sometimes messy game, but it’s a Star Wars experience I didn’t know I wanted. And after finishing it, I definitely want more.”

At the time of writing, the game has a score of 84% on Metacritic, based on 23 reviews, which is enough to get us excited.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC right now.
