This will be a must-play for fans of fighting games.

The previous entry in the Tekken franchise, Tekken 7, arrived in arcades back in 2015 before arriving on consoles in 2017. It remains one of the greatest fighting games in gaming history, standing out in the crowd alongside some of the latest entries in the Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and Dragonball Z entries.

We’ve been waiting quite a while for Tekken 8, especially as we’re getting a new Street Fighter this year too, but the game’s creators Bandai Namco have revealed a new gameplay trailer, focusing on the series’ primary protagonist/antagonist (depending on who you ask), Kazuya.

So far, the game has also confirmed the return of iconic characters, Jack, King, Law, Nina and Paul, as well as Jun Kazama, who makes her comeback for the first time in 27 years. In the new gameplay trailer, we also see Kazuya’s son Jin Kazama, who is on the receiving end of Kazuya’s beatdown.

From the footage, you’ll see that it looks absolutely gorgeous, and that is because Tekken 8 will be powered by the Unreal Engine 5, making it the very first major fighting game to utilise this latest game engine.

The game’s director also told IGN that there will also be a focus on stage destruction, character reactions to these, and making the gameplay enjoyable to watch as well as play, since Tekken is now a high level E-Sports game.

Now for the bad news: Tekken 8 won’t arrive on PS5, Series X & S and PC until some time in 2024. Talk about a long, drawn-out tease…
