Nothing will be as violent as the aggressive misspelling of Combat, though.
The very first Mortal Kombat game was released towards the end of 1992, instantly becoming a smash hit, mostly thanks to the Fatality system that allowed to "Finish Him" (or "Her", depending on who you were fighting) in a delightfully violent way.
Jump forward over a quarter of a century, and we're approaching the arrival of Mortal Kombat 11, which sees some brand new characters forced into a time-travelling plot that will pitch them against some classic fighters from earlier in the series.
Among the officially announced so far roster are Baraka, Cassie Cage, Erron Black, Geras, Jade, Jacqui Briggs, Johnny Cage, Kabal, Kano, Raiden, Scorpion, Skarlet, Sonya Blade, and Sub-Zero, with Shao Kahn available to those who pre-order, or pay for the eventual DLC.
The newly-launched story trailer below shows the mix of characters heading into some kind of multi-verse war, thanks to... the God Of Time(?!)... that will see them fight evil versions of themselves, and also... giant space scorpions(?!?!)... but really we're all here for the violent ends, and the trailer doesn't skimp on showing off some of the more gorey fatalities that will be available to the players.
Mortal Kombat 11 will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on Tuesday 23 April, and on Nintendo Switch on Friday 10 May.
