Why can’t all elections be decided with a steel cage match?

1,2…3! The bell rings. After a long and bloody battle, Michéal Martin stands victorious over a fallen Varadkar, after taking one Stone Cold Stunner too many… Wait, what?

When the WWE series returned with WWE 2K22, it was a return to form following the… interesting WWE 2K20. WWE 2K23 has built on the success of last year’s entry, along with some tightened up gameplay, and adding in minor changes along the way.

If you’re a fan of the old Road to Wrestlemania storylines in the Smackdown Vs Raw era of the WWE games, the MyRise mode should satisfy your needs. Create a custom character, take them through training the Performance Centre, and then fight your way through a wide array of storylines involving your favourite wrestlers.

Whether you exclusively play on Legendary difficulty, or you’re picking up the game for the first time, the simple combat system makes living out your Wrestlemania fantasies a reality.

Speaking of fantasies, the customisation options are still among the deepest in the fighting game genre, with custom arenas, championships, logos, brands, and the ability to import images from your phone, in case you wanted to make John Cena wear your local GAA club’s jersey.

The level of detail available to gamers for how to create characters is incredible, and fans have already gone to great lengths to create photorealistic models for stars outside of WWE, such as Jon Moxley (fka Dean Ambrose), Mercedes Moné (fka Sasha Banks), and Kenny Omega.

We were able to mock up our own versions of Irish stars and make them battle out for a custom Irish championship, with full entrances, celebrations, and even run-ins and betrayals.

If you’re looking to live out dreams of being a major wrestling star, then this is an absolute must-buy. WWE 2K23 is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC right now.
