Editorial Lead (Sports)
The successful candidate will help lead the editorial and social teams across Ireland and the UK to populate the SportsJOE website with trending and original stories that hit our unique tone of voice and bring Irish sports to life!
JOB TYPE: FULL TIME (Weekend and evening working required)
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Extensive experience working in a sports newsroom or fast-paced digital publisher.
- Expert understanding of the Irish sport landscape
- Experience sourcing high-performing news items and delegating tasks to team members
- Clear understanding of driving commercial opportunities within editorial outputs.
- Overseeing and managing the daily editorial output for the SportsJOE brand.
- Developing editorial and social communications within the team, including benchmarks, workflow and editorial decision-making.
- Troubleshooting content issues across editorial and social teams and overseeing close team working for both content strands.
- Leading on the development of editorial products across the SportsJOE website, including features, quizzes and liveblogs for key sporting events, and working to develop other exciting products as opportunities arise.
- Assist in the creation of rota to ensure all major Irish sporting events are covered across editorial and social, providing high quality content during live events.
- Source and collaborate with external contributors to ensure SportsJOE brand content is created and surfaced across the SportsJOE sites and socials, including long-form, high value pieces that hit the correct tone of voice for our audience.
- Work with the sales teams as well as the Editorial Director and General Manager to plan and execute a plan for the creation, promotion and sale of editorial products throughout the calendar year.
- Leading and motivating team members, delegating tasks accordingly to ensure output remains consistent.
- Overseeing development of editorial product content throughout the calendar
- year, alongside any other duties as required by Senior Management.
- Developing and implementing processes to increase efficiency whilst maintaining
- quality of output.
- Upskilling the team and sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience in digital content.
- Accountability for the editorial integrity and quality of their teams’ work.
- Monitor goals and performance metrics for all websites; monitoring regularly to
optimise accordingly and ensure strong page and traffic health.
- Strong newsroom experience, but more importantly, the individual is able to motivate teams to meet deadlines and publish work of the highest quality.
- Excellent sports news judgement, able to see where the news agenda will be going and plan content to meet it, alongside recognising the potential of viral content.
- Proven experience of optimising content for search.
- Must have multiple areas of interest across the sporting world.
- Able to spot and nurture upcoming talent.
