Hi Claire,

I'm a 34-year-old lad and was with a girl for 4 years up until 4 years ago. We broke up for a few reasons but I’ve been more or less single since. Any suggestions how I could meet someone?

I'm a reasonably good looking fella,  probably a little shy. I have been out and about but can’t seem to find anyone and have even tried the whole internet dating thing, which I don’t believe in anyway, but all has failed. Name and address supplied

Every person at some point in their life has felt exactly the same way, stuck being single when all they want is someone to come home to in the evenings and give them a hug.

Most people meet their partner either through mutual friends or work or through the internet. We are the Facebook generation after all!

Pubs and clubs are probably the worst places to meet someone if you are looking for a long term relationship because, let's face it, it’s more lust than love you’re after by pint number eight.

The reason a lot of people meet other people on the internet (and not necessarily on a dating site but on social networking sites) is because they have a chance to see whether they fancy the person or not, whether you have anything in common or share the same interests and if you actually have anything to talk about. It can be a great help to weeding out ‘the bad ones’ before even bothering to do the first date.

The other thing I would suggest is to perhaps spend more time involved with your hobbies. If you are into car racing or football or any other sport or activity it might present you with the opportunity to meet a girl who shares the same interests.

The busier you are with enjoying your own life the happier you will be and, like I said, when you stop looking for love that’s when it will find you.
