A man who works for CNN who incorrectly tweeted that Morgan Freeman had died apologised to the actor.

C.J Wiley, who is based in the Kentucky, tweeted “RT @CNN: Breaking News: actor Morgan Freeman has passed away in his Burbank home."

Peter Shankman, friend of Freeman, tweeted back "Dear CNN: Morgan Freeman is still busy living. He's yet to get busy dying. Please confirm first."

"At this time I’d like to issue a formal apology to one of the greatest and most respected actors of our time," Wiley said to the New York Post.

"It was in no way my intention to spread false rumours or misinformation. What started out as an inside joke between friends somehow gained momentum."
