12 stunning images of the Winter Solstice sunrise across Ireland

Ciara Knight

Winter Solstice is just a fake holiday invented by greedy corporations to sell more solstices.

Regardless, today is the day of the Winter Solstice.

It’s the shortest day of the year (in terms of sunlight, there’s still 24 long hours in this puppy), as the sun shines at its most southern point.

Winter officially begun this morning as the sun rose at 8:38am and will set later today at 4:08pm.

Lots of people flocked to Newgrange during the wee hours to watch the most epic sun rise of the year.

We sent our photographers all over the country to catch the sun rising on this special day.
