No Irish cities make the grade.
Munich has been crowned the ‘most liveable’ city in the world for 2018 in the latest annual ranking from British lifestyle magazine Monocle.
The prestigious list places the Bavarian city ahead of Tokyo (last year’s number one), Vienna, Zurich and Copenhagen, while no Irish location manages to crack the 25-strong rundown.
The USA misses out entirely, too, with Vancouver in Canada registering as the sole North American city in the mix, taking 14th spot.
Moncole’s 12th Quality of Life survey is a global undertaking that focuses on healthy work-life balance, the mood of residents, and effective infrastructure and public services amongst other factors.
Commenting on Munich’s placing at the top of the mountain, the Monocle team describe a city that feels “at once relaxed and dynamic, cosmopolitan yet traditional.”
Analysts note that though Munich’s housing prices may be higher than many other German cities, it offers great value for those who live there.
They point to an abundance of parks, safe and secure streets, a nearby environment fit for skiing, hiking and sailing, high-quality infrastructure, and an innovative setting for start-ups and big businesses.
