The best gin in Ireland has been revealed

Rory Cashin

You can’t spell “great” without a g and a t.

The Irish Quality Food and Drink Awards took place during the week, with all of the best (you guessed it!) Irish food and drink products of the year announced during the ceremony.

In amongst the winners was the Best Irish Gin, which is a highly competitive category these days, considering how popular G&Ts and gin-based cocktails have become in Ireland.

At the awards, special mention went to Dingle Distillery Original Gin, Ballykeefe Distillery, Beara Ocean Gin, Greenall’s Original London Dry Gin, Aldi Boyles Gin, Bloom Gin, Bloom Gin and Rose Lemonade, Dublin City Gin, Old Carrick Mill Small Batch Irish Gin, and Tesco Aromatic Gin.

But one of the gold awards for the night went to Lidl’s Distilled Irish Gin, from the West Cork Distillers.

The gin is infused with no less than TWELVE botanicals: Juniper, Coriander, Angelica, Orris Root, Orange, Lemon, Blackberry Leaves, Dandelion Flower, Scots Pine, Wild Garlic, Wild Fennel, and Furze Petals.

It retails for €24.99, and considering we’re in the depths of Irish Cocktail Month, it would seem like as good a time as any to check it out.
