This didn’t go down well. At all.
As the country is still in a celebratory mood following the repeal of the Eighth Amendment, the reactions have been coming in think and fast.
If you’re looking to remain in the company of the positive vibes, you should check out JOE’s own coverage of the landmark day, such as the look into how Ireland united to repeal, or how the vote has proved that the politics of fear no longer work on the Irish population, or – our personal highlight – this lovely lady who was hand out After Eight chocolates once the results had been confirmed.
However, there are some people who are attempting to use the repeal result in other ways, such as journalist Toby Young, who sent out the following tweet in the hours following the confirmation of the repealing of the Eighth Amendment:

The Spectator writer appears to be equating the majority vote result of the Eighth Referendum to the result of Brexit vote, which is still a bone of contention for many within the UK.
It didn’t take long for readers and the folks of Twitter to point out their biggest issue with his argument:
Does the Irish result mean everyone has to have an abortion whether they want one or not? Because otherwise I can see a small flaw in your logic…

People who don't want to have abortions don't need to have abortions. Whereas people who don't want to leave the EU…

Not sure there’s an equivalence Toby old chap.
The #RepealedThe8th referendum is a clear choice over a woman’s right to choose what she does with her body.
The #Brexit referendum was a misrepresented and fiercely complicated question which was over simplified by liars.— Bernie 💙 Author | Speaker (@_WhatMakesAMan_) May 26, 2018
Mate. If Ireland had a 100 referendums to #repealthe8th the result would still be the same. But a 2nd #EURef would see a Remain victory because a) we’re all better informed & b) people have realised Brexit’s the biggest deception perpetrated on the UK ever.

referendums in Ireland totally different to the Brexit referendum. came with a package of detailed proposed legislation that was arrived after more than a year of consideration by a citizens assembly and then a parliamentary committee before permission for ref put to vote in Dail https://t.co/6ermAGZRmm
