Ah, begorrah!
It feels like there’s a new poll regarding sexiest accents in the world taking place pretty much every week (like this one), but this one … is different.
The folks at The Language Gallery asked the people within the UK which accents they thought were sexiest, from within the UK.
Irish folk voted on something something similar about a year ago, when Donegal came out on top, followed by Dublin and Cork.
So the usual suspects of French and Italian are now AWOL, as the locals are asked to analyse themselves in terms of sexiness sounding.
And, also, the least sexy sounding, with the bottom 3 within the UK being (via The Evening Standard):
- Brummie (20% voted this to be the least sexy)
- Scouse (18%)
- Cockney (8%)
On the other end of the scale, the top three were:
- Irish (16%)
- Welsh (10%)
- Geordie (9%)
Yes, you read that right. The UK were asked which UK accent was the sexiest, and their answer was Irish.
Some may find it to be nothing more than a compliment.
And, we imagine, some others may find it to be highly insulting that the UK are still claiming Ireland to be a part of their collective.
Either way, the Irish accent is still winning sexiness competitions, even those that it shouldn’t technically qualify for. So hooray for that.
