WATCH: Devastating scenes as dozens of bottles of Buckfast smash off the ground in Galway

Conor Heneghan

Buckfast

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

It’s hard to explain the hold that Buckfast has on a certain section of (usually college-going) Irish people; you either love it or you’re weird you don’t and plenty of us love it very much indeed.

For some reason, the city of Galway has a particular affinity with the tonic wine; notice the news recently that thousands of bottles of Bucky were found at the bottom of the Claddagh Basin.

With that in mind, it makes it all the more painful to learn that dozens upon dozens of bottles of Bucky met with a premature and very unfortunate death on Thursday outside the Londis in Newcastle, Galway city.

We’re reliably informed by the owner of the store, Jonathan Corbett, that 58 bottles of Buckfast were smashed as the delivery man attempted to pull them through the door.

To put that quantity in terms Buckfast drinkers are more likely to understand, it’s about a whole college year’s supply of the good stuff.

Jonathan tells us that they still have loads of Buckfast in stock and customers can get two bottles for €20 if they’re so inclined.

Despite the plentiful stock, we still think it’s appropriate to take a minute to remember the fallen Buckfast and to think of the good times that would have been had by those lucky enough to have it pass their lips.

Cheers to Jonathan Corbett for sending this our way. If you have something you would like to share with us, send it to [email protected] or hit us up on Facebook or Twitter.
