Congratulations to all at Nancy’s Barn in Ballyliffin on a tremendous achievement.

As it’s such a world-renowned dish, it’s quite the achievement to say that your establishment serves the best chowder in the world, but Nancy’s Barn in Ballyliffin in Donegal can now say that with pride for the next 12 months.

On Saturday, June 10, the restaurant took home first prize in the seafood category at the 36th annual Great Chowder Cook-Off in Rhode Island, the longest-running event of its kind in the USA and the crème de la crème of chowder contests worldwide.

Having won the sixth annual All-Ireland Chowder Cook Off in Kinsale in April last year, chef and owner of Nancy’s Barn, Kieran ‘Duey’ Doherty, earned the right to compete with some of the best chowder makers in the world on what seemed like a belter of a day at Fort Adams State Park in Rhode Island.

Kieran obviously brought his A game because Nancy’s Barn emerged victorious in the Best Seafood Category, with Kieran and his team flying the flag for Donegal and Ireland as they beamed proudly on stage afterwards.

We’re sure the achievement by Kieran and the crew was celebrated well into the wee small hours; let’s just hope that there were no rows in relation to pronunciation of the revered dish on the night…
