#WomenBoycottTwitter
Actress Rose McGowan announced on her Instagram account on Wednesday night that Twitter had suspended her account without warning for 12 hours.
Many immediately assumed that her suspension was in direct relation to her recent allegations against Harvey Weinstein, who has been accused of decades of sexual harassment and assault by a number of actresses, models and assistants, which resulted from him being removed from his own production company.
Twitter explained why they had suspended McGowan’s account – she had tweeted someone’s personal phone number – and how it had broken one of their terms of us.
In the hours following McGowan’s account suspension, anger continued to build over Twitter’s actions, and today, a number of high profile women (and the men who stand alongside them) have already pledged to boycott the social media platform for the day in reaction to yesterday’s actions:
If you need to be on Twitter for support, to not be alone, IT IS OK
