Alan Loughnane

How common are you?

We get one day a year where we commemorate our journey into this world, but countless others do it around the world on the exact same day.

But luckily, we can tell how many people celebrate it on the same day in Ireland… well, almost.

Figures available on the Central Statistics Office website, and brought to our attention by The Irish Mirror, have detailed the most common birthdays in Ireland since 1980.

July is the most common month for birthdays in Ireland with on average 5,380 born during the the month from 1980 until 2014.

This is followed closely by May with an average of 5,332 births, and September with 5,291.

Below are the average number of births per month

But although the above are the biggest month, October 1 is the most common birthdate in Ireland with an average of 191 births on that day since 1980.

In contrast the least common birthday is December 26, St Stephens’s Day, is the least common birthday in Ireland with an average of 112 births on that day each year.

The ten most common birthdays in Ireland are:

  1. October 1 (Average births, 191)
  2. September 23 (188)
  3. September 29 (188)
  4. September 27 (187)
  5. September 22 (187)
