The build up to Conor ‘Notorious’ McGregor’s fight in Sweden this weekend revolved around his opponent, Marcus Brimage, talking smack about the fact that the Irishman had never fought any real opponents, and he would make short work of him in the ring.

Having come from Cage Warriors with two belts to his name, McGregor certainly had the record backing him up, but Brimage was pretty disparaging about the level of competition and confident that the fight would be one way traffic.

He would find out, to his own detriment, how wrong he was, and that the Dublin man’s self confidence was not misplaced. 67 seconds in, the fight was over, Brimage was knocked out, and McGregor was celebrating the biggest win of his career in exactly the fashion you would expect.

Although Brimage was able to land a few hits on McGregor early in the round, something he’ll be keen to improve before his next fight, the Crumlin man absorbed the punishment and caught him with an uppercut, before landing some sweet hits that knocked him to the ground, where he finished the fight off emphatically.

The story was also given an extra sweetness by the fact that he picked up the Knock Out of the Night prize at the event, scooping an extra $60,000 for his minute’s work, not a bad way to earn a living, as they say.

McGregor also showed his personality when in the post-fight interview, he called out none other than Dana White to give him the big prize.

He also was extremely comfortable when he came out of the octagon and gave a brilliant interview, with some classic lines, including “I’m gonna steal all the money from the UFC and head back home with a big bag full of money, f**k the recession!”

He also had a bit of a spat with Kenny Egan on Twitter when the former boxer tweeted out a meme implying that MMA was something similar to the film Broke Back Mountain, which McGregor didn’t take kindly to. Both were pretty sharp with the insults, but the two put their differences aside in the end and wished each other the best.

Speaking of personality, we’re likely to see some more of it this Friday, when McGregor caps off his pretty amazing week with an appearance on the Late Late Show with Ryan Tubridy. We’re not sure what the odds are of the two stepping into the cage together for Conor to demonstrate some of his better moves, but we’ll certainly be watching just in case that does happen.
