Celebrate with a quiet night in.

Ireland has the least noisy neighbours out of all 28 EU states, according to a new study by Eurostat.

The paper, which looked at levels of noise created by neighbours or from streets during 2016 found that 17.9% of the European Union population suffered from such issues.

It will come as no shock to hear that 23.3% of all EU urban dwellers felt their neighbours were too loud, by comparison to 10.4% of those living in rural areas. Single people also had it a little harder, with 20.8% claiming that the folk next door were too noisy, whereas the same issue only affected 17.8% of two-adult households, 16.6% of those in three or more adult households.

Among EU Member States, it was found that 1 out of every 4 persons living in Malta, Germany and the Netherlands suffered from noise in their neighbourhood.

Malta came out on top with 26.2%, while Germany came in second with 25.1% followed closely by the Netherlands with 24.9%. Just below these poor misfortunates was Portugal (23.1%), Romania (20.3%), Greece (19.9%) and Luxembourg (19.7%). Clocking in just below the EU average was the United Kingdom at 17%, which was .5% up on its results in 2015.

Ireland on the other hand is quiet and getting quieter at 7.9%, which is down .1% on 2015, while Croatia (8.5%), Bulgaria (10%) and Estonia (10.4%) made up the other states at the peaceful end of the scale.

So now you know how to have a quiet life. Get married and move to rural Ireland.
