These are the most expensive capital cities in Europe, and Dublin is high on the list

Alan Loughnane

But of course, we already knew that…

New research into the most expensive and cheapest capital cities in Europe has been conducted by Eurostat, and it has yielded some unsurprising results.

Calculated through “correction coefficients” which are used by the European Commission to ensure the equality of purchasing power of European civil servants’ remuneration between different locations within the European Union and Brussels.

Basically, how much they can get for the same amount in each country.

Through this, they established the cost of living in each city by giving us how many currency units a given quantity of goods and services costs in different countries.

With Brussels being the mean calculation with a correction coefficient of 100, they judged the others based around this figure.

London is the most expensive city in Europe to live with the technical term for the cost of living there being “poison dear” with a  score of 166.9.

Ireland ranked in at fifth on the list with a score of 116.6 behind Copenhagen, Stockholm and Helsinki.
