Irish teenagers literacy and numeracy is among the worst in developed nations

Alan Loughnane

The new report isn’t very flattering to Ireland…

Irish teenagers are some of the least literate in the developed world according to a new report from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Using data from a previous report, the OECD evaluated the levels of literacy and numeracy among developed nations and surprisingly, Ireland was ranked very low on both lists.

Among 16-19-year-olds, low literacy rates are well above 10 % and the low numeracy rates were close to 30%.
