These tips have saved us

JOE

New job, new you.

So you’ve started a new job. You’ve gone in, met your new co-workers and learned the ropes.

You’ve been there a couple of months and that elusive first pay-day is just a few days away.

What do you do with your first wage?

dontknow

Well of course, you do whatever you like. JOE would never tell you what to do with your own hard earned cash.

But here’s 5 tips, with thanks to Lynx Black, which might make your life a little easier.

Pay off your rent

It’s all too easy to get caught behind on bills and this is probably the most important bill of them all. If you’re starting out in a new job, there’s a good chance you may have moved into a new place as well.

The last thing you want is to make a bad first impression.

Save a little

By putting away a little each month, you’ll be surprised how quickly you accumulate enough cash to buy something you initially thought was out of your price bracket.

Be it a car, a holiday or, just some new clothes, putting a little away each month will make it feel like you’ve paid for it without much sacrifice.

Treat someone

Chances are, for the past two months, your close friend or partner has been listening to you complaining about being broke. Pay them back for their patience (and of course their financial help) when you get your first wage.

It’s good to show people you appreciate them.

eqnPlan ahead

It’s easy to get excited when you see a big wad of cash resting in your bank account, but remember that you still have to go through a few weeks until your next one comes in. So budget out what you can spend each week and try to stay within your restraints.

Basically we’re saying, don’t eat lobster during the first week and be stuck with baked beans during the last.

beansEnjoy yourself

You’ve worked hard to get here and you’ve waited that annoying ‘month in hand’, so don’t be afraid to enjoy yourself. It’s your money and you earned it.

So there you have it, 5 tips for spending your first pay cheque wisely and not one of them was buy JOE a pint. But if you should want to, we’d be very happy to accept.
