Stay safe out there today, folks.

With two of three weather warnings set to kick in at 9am on Thursday, Storm Lorenzo has officially arrived, and is predicted to remain over Ireland until the early hours of Friday morning.

With that in mind, some folk may not want to run the risk of leaving the house too much today and Dublin Fire Brigade have issued an advisories for those who are staying in and avoiding the bad weather:

  • Power cuts are likely – charge your phone and powerbank
  • New batteries in your torch and one in the car too
  • If the power goes, use LED candles. not real ones
  • Flooding is possible, so you should prepare for that possibility now

Dublin Fire Brigade also added that they’ve no updates on bread supplies, considering how the country reacted when the Beast From The East arrived last year.

As for motorists who have to head out in the inclement conditions today, AA Roadwatch have also listed some advice for driving in rain and wind:

  • Be aware that stopping distances are longer in wet conditions
  • Only drive through water if you know that it is not too deep for your vehicle
  • Allow oncoming traffic to pass before proceeding
  • Drive slowly through high water in low gear
  • Test your breaks as soon as your get out of the water
  • Allow a large gap between you and other vehicles
  • Give a wide berth to cyclists, pedestrians, and other vehicles
  • Look out for wind-blown debris, especially on back roads
  • High-sided vehicles are especially vulnerable on exposed roads
