Maradona’s Ferrari Testarossa is for sale

JOE

Ever fancied driving the same car that the great ‘D10S’ owned? Well here’s your chance…

Provided, of course, that you’ve got €250,000 to spare for the iconic motor. It’s common enough to see a black Ferrari these days, but in 1987, when Maradona bought the car, the Testrossa only came in red.

He was the second ever person to own one that wasn’t red according to Autoblog.com.ar, who note that the first person to get one was none other than the star of Rocky, Sly Stallone.

Maradona got the car in 1987, after the World Cup in 1986 where he produced the most famous handball in football, and perhaps one of the greatest goals we’ll ever see against England. You don’t have to speak Spanish to hear the emotion in this great commentary from Victor Hugo Morales, who realises immediately what he’s seen may never be bettered.

At the time he bought it, Maradona was playing for Napoli, and his ex-manager spins a great yarn about how Diego reacted when he first got the car.

I managed to get the black Ferrari, and at that time was unimaginable to have one in black. We brought it up to Diego and he started looking around inside it. I said to him: ‘What’s wrong? and he asked me ‘Where’s the stereo?’. I told him: ‘What stereo?! It doesn’t have a stereo… it’s a sports car, it doesn’t have a stereo, it doesn’t have air conditioning, it doesn’t have any of that. So Diego responded: ‘Well, in that case they can shove it up their arse’!

The world’s most famous no. 10 sold the car when he left Italy, as it would have been far too expensive to bring it back to Argentina, and it has been kept in pristine condition by its current owner, who goes by the name of M.M. He’s a collector who lives in Spain, and has made sure that the unique Testarossa is just as Diego left it, with only 20,200 km on the clock.

The interior is made of white leather, and M.M., who’s selling it, has even included a pic of the original certificate of ownership, complete with Maradona’s name on it, so you know it’s legit.

JOE is starting a collection so we can drive this amazing piece of memorabilia down to the take away, so please send €1 to ‘Ferrari Dude’…

Hat-tip to Guillote Quilmore for sending this our way and autoblog.com.ar for the pics
