This is why you should NOT have turned your clock back by an hour this morning

Tony Cuddihy

Oh well. We’ll know for next year.

It’s a done deal at this point, but apparently turning the hands of your clock back by an hour is a bad idea.

Kevin Chellar, who runs Timepiece Antique Clocks on Patrick Street in Dublin, explained to The Irish Times why you should simply stop your clock for an hour rather than physically turn back time.

“This time of year I get a lot of phone calls from people who have forgotten that they’re not supposed to turn the hands of their clock backwards,” said Chellar, horologist and owner of the shop.

“All you have to do is stop your clock for an hour and start it off again. In springtime going forward you just set the hands one hour, it’s really easy. But setting the hands backwards is a no-no because there are levers that are lifted in a clockwise action, and if they go backwards you are bending and twisting them.”

Whoops.

Meanwhile, people are coming to terms with having woken up an hour early on a day when lots of people – in Dublin, at any rate – will be stuck at home with nothing to do if they’re not competing in the Marathon.

And then there’s this…

And then there’s this, which would have been us if we hadn’t drawn the short straw and had to come to work on a poxy Sunday.

And then, finally, there’s the hell that is parenting when your kids don’t give a shiny shite about what time it is.
