Nutella is changing the golden recipe that makes their delicious product

We still volunteer as tribute to test the new recipe.

Nutella

Why? If it’s not broke…

Is there actually anyone in the world that doesn’t like Nutella?

It’s the ultimate comfort food, it’s ideal as a quick replacement for butter on toast and let’s face it, if you’re a lover of Nutella, you have most definitely scooped a spoon directly from the jar and eaten it.

What we’re trying to say is that Nutella is delicious and should never change. We love Nutella just the way it is but sadly, the company that makes the spreadable product feels that a slight alteration to their golden recipe was needed.

The beloved chocolate-hazelnut spread’s little change to its creation was revealed on Facebook by the Verbraucherzentrale Hamburg also known as the Hamburg Consumer Protection Centre (HCPC) who said that Ferrero, the company behind the product, has included more sugar and more powdered skimmed milk into the mix.

Roughly translated, the post says:

“Ferrero is changing the recipe of Nutella for the first time in many years. The proportion of skimmed milk powder is now 8.7 % in the list of ingredients.

Since the colour of the new Nutella is brighter, we assume that more milk powder was added at the expense of cocoa. Cocoa slipped back in the list of ingredients.

Whether or not the contents of other ingredients such as sugar or palm oil have been altered remains unclear. The sugar content continues to increase to 56.3% (previously 55.9%), but the fat content is slightly reduced to 30.9%(previously 31.8%).

Have you noticed the difference, and what do you think of this recipe change?”

The sugar content has gone up from 55.9% to 56.3% and the milk from 7.5% to 8.7%.

The HCPC has said that the new Nutella has a lighter colour and they suggest that by increasing the milk content, the company has been able to save costs on cocoa.

It has been said that the alteration is a standard industry practice and that it won’t affect the taste too much but at the same time if you are a Nutella lover, you will still be concerned until you have a taste of the product made with the new recipe.

We probably haven’t been this worried about a switch of a fan favourite and delicious product since the change in the appearance of Toblerone’s in order to make them weigh less…
