The Onion has taken aim at Ireland’s abortion laws

Rory Cashin

Much like Waterford Whispers, if you’ve made it to this website, it is almost definitely never for a good reason.

American satirical news website The Onion got wind of the current situation in Ireland regarding our abortion laws, and put together a quick fake vox-pop on the subject.

The site’s “reporters” asked some of the “general public” the following question:

An Irish teen was forcibly committed after seeking an abortion, only to be released four days later upon determining she did not have a psychological disorder. What do you think?

The answers were, predictably, not flattering:

Earlier this week, the Minister For Health announced that he hopes for their to be a new Eighth Referendum vote in the summer of 2018, while it was also declared the women from Northern Ireland no longer need to pay for abortions when they travel to England for the procedure.

Meanwhile, many people also took to the streets this weekend for the #RallyForLife march which took place on the streets of Dublin.
