Over 400 people are going on a 12 pubs of Christmas in Galway on Friday

Most importantly, it’s all for a great cause.

You may well be among a growing number of people sick to death with the very mention of the words ‘12 pubs’ at this stage, but it’s far more tolerable when there’s a charitable element involved.

In Ballinasloe this Friday, for the second year in succession, a massive 12 pubs pub crawl will take place in the town and promises to be even bigger this year considering it’s taking place on the Friday before Christmas.

Last year (see one of the pictures from the night below), 237 people were counted walking between two pubs on the route and, according to the event’s Facebook page, just under 500 people (at the time of writing) have committed to attending this year.

Having raised €1,700 last year, organisers have already committed to donating proceeds from this year’s event to St. Teresa’s special school in Ballinasloe.

Local businesses have also got involved, with Rumours nightclub, for example, putting up €300 towards hampers, finger food and spot prizes on the night and pledging that they will be donating €1 of the nightclub entry fee for every participant to the chosen charity.
