A Peter Kay fan has been left with egg on their face after splashing £377 (€430) on the wrong show in their haste to secure tickets for his tour.

On Wednesday, fans of the comedian rushed online to secure their place at one of his shows over the next 12 months.

Many were left waiting in virtual queues on ticket-selling websites as they tried to snap up tickets to Kay’s first stand-up tour in 12 years. However, it seems like one woman got a bit too excited, and ended up making a very costly error.

Leah-Dionne Short made a horrendous error, as instead of bagging 10 tickets to Kay’s show, she purchased 10 tickets to see exhibition basketball team the Harlem Globetrotters instead – at a cost of £377.

The 49-year-old had been waiting in a queue on Ticketmaster “all morning” to pick up tickets to the landmark tour.

‘I am laughing, but crying also’

In a post on Facebook admitting her mistake about the Peter Kay mix-up, Leah-Dionne Short wrote:

“I cannot believe I’m actually writing this, but I’ve been trying to get Peter Kay tickets all morning and I finally got through and the excitement got to me, and I’ve only gone and bought the wrong f***ing tickets for f**k’s sake.

“If anyone wants any tickets to see the Harlem f***ing Globetrotters then let me know, because I’ve got TEN of the stupid idiot tickets. £377 down and I am laughing, but crying also.”

The woman’s post has left people online in stitches, with some confused as to how Leah got the two events confused in the first place.

One person wrote: “Oh my god. Sorry but that has made me [laugh]. How the hell did u get them confused?”

While another added: “I am absolutely crying laughing!” A third said: “Oh gosh Leah! How awful for you but so so funny!”

Leah-Dionne has even resorted to DMing Peter Kay’s official account on Instagram to try and shift the tickets.

“I’ve had a bit of a nightmare if I’m honest love. I tried to buy 10 tickets for your show which was proving quite difficult, and when I finally did get onto Ticketmaster I was so excited that I’ve accidentally bought the wrong ones.

“You won’t believe it but I’ve ordered 10 tickets for the Harlem bloody Globetrotters Pete, I’ve never watched a single game of basketball in my life! What’s more messed up is I’ve ended up spending £370 for the privilege.

“Is there any way you can help me with this at all? Couple of VIPs for my dedication to the garlic bread and cheesecake gags?”

‘I just clicked one, selected 10 tickets and paid’

Leah-Dionne Short has since explained how she made the mistake, blaming the fact she tried to access the pre-sale being held by her phone provider, Three.

She was unaware that not all the options on the website were related to Peter Kay’s tour, so when she found the venue she wanted to attend, she went ahead and booked tickets – not realising it was a different event. She told the Mirror:

“I’m with 3 network and was trying to get the pre-sale through there for two hours. I finally got on and got my code for Peter Kay pre-sale, and when it took me through to the Ticketmaster website I was so stressed about making sure I got the tickets that I didn’t realise that not all the dates and shows listed were for Peter Kay, some were for other events.

“So I just clicked one, selected 10 tickets and paid. It wasn’t until after that I realised that ‘Harlem Globe Trotters’ isn’t the name of the stadium the event is at!”

Aside from the almost £400 blown on basketball tickets, the error didn’t end up being too costly as Leah’s boyfriend managed to get tickets for one of Kay’s shows, so she’ll still be seeing her comedy hero.

And there must be a basketball fan out there who can help her out and take at least a couple of the Harlem Globetrotters’ tickets off her?
