Does your pet’s name feature in the most popular pet names of 2016?

Any of these sound familiar?

Pet owners try and give their dog, cat or tarantula a unique name to set them apart from the crowd, but it turns out that the moniker you’ve given your pet may be more common than you think.

This month is National Pet Month in the UK and to mark it, Animal Friends Pet Insurance have conducted a survey of over 60,000 pet owners to determine the most popular pet names across the pond.

The survey, as it turns out, was limited to cat, dog and horse owners and also explored owners’ inspiration for naming their pets.

Pet owners in the UK, for example, name their pets after foods such as Oreo, Biscuit and Rolo, after late musicians such as Bowie and Lemmy and after movie characters such as Simba from the Lion King and Loki from Avengers Assemble.

Overall, however, more traditional names reigned supreme, with Alfie proving the most popular name for dogs, Charlie for cats and Rosie for horses.

Baflingly, there was no sign of Sampras anywhere, although the fact that the survey didn’t include rabbits probably explains that one…
