This was quite a bad situation for FHM and I know what you're thinking, it's still possible to salvage it. Rather than admit their mistake and laugh it off, FHM were not fully convinced that they made an error and decided to question Ed Byrne's confident knowledge regarding his own identity, pulling out a 2012 interview with his name and photo.
This was also an interview that Ed Byrne didn't do. Double fail.

And just in case they still didn't believe him, he told the magazine to ask the other Irish comedian, Jason Byrne.

Naturally, the public profile of both comedians has meant that the gaffe didn't stay hidden for long as the Twitterverse were quick to add their two cents.

Another bright spark quipped they should get Samuel L Jackson on the case and Ed Byrne, clearly enjoying the spotlight, tweeted an excellent reply.

We did love this puntastic comment from a Twitter user also.
