That smudge you can see on your computer screen is us drooling over what could be the nicest dessert we’ve ever set eyes upon.

Christmas is only a few weeks away at this stage so if you’re anything like us, you’re already thinking of letting your hair down a little and treating yourself to all the goodies you’re allowed to eat during the festive season.

Trust us, it’s Christmas, it’s fine.

That said, we would gladly give up all the Roses, Milk Tray and Ferrero Rocher we’re going to gorge ourselves on over the next few weeks for just one bite of nutellasagna, a dessert that originated in Brooklyn in New York but will surely become a global phenomenon once everyone gets wind of it.

This isn’t like the meat/dessert hybrid disaster that Rachel once famously cooked in Friends either, no, no.

According to gothamist, it is a dish created by Allison Robicelli of Robicelli’s restaurant in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and contains “buttery lasagna noodles, cannoli custard, copious amounts of Nutella, crushed roasted hazelnuts and chopped chocolate, with some marshmallows on top for additional sweetness”.

Starting Christmas week, Robicelli’s will have half trays (serves 10-15) of the nutellasagna available for $65 (approximately €53) and full trays (serves 15-24) available for $120 (approximately €98), while customers can also order online via the Robicelli’s website.

As you might expect, Robicelli’s only cater for the New York area at present so if you happen to be visiting the Big Apple anytime soon we highly recommend a visit, but surely it can’t be too long before somebody in Ireland comes up with a similar recipe.

When they do, we’ll be happy to sample it and spread the delicious word to the rest of the country.
