PICS: This Galway pub is selling amazing-looking Super Split ice-cream cocktails

Alan Loughnane

Sweet baby Jeebus…

We’ve already seen these glorious Lucozade cocktails at an Irish bar in New York as well as some beauties last summer when we were in the midst of a heatwave.

Your childhood wasn’t complete unless you ate at least one Super Split ice-cream per day during the summer months while sitting on your lawn listening to some member of your family say, “Tis fierce close out.”

The best way we can describe a Super Split, is as an ice-cream you wouldn’t buy for yourself if you went into a shop, but if you discovered it in your freezer at home, you’d be quite a happy camper.

The simplicity of ice-cream covered in a layer of orange ice was, and still is, a perfect way to cool down your body on a warm summer’s day.

Now, McGettigan’s pub in Galway are playing on our nostalgia by serving up an adult version of the classic ice-cream. Yes. We’re talking about Super Split ice-cream cocktails.

The bad news is that the cocktails will be available for one day only on Saturday June 17, as McGettigan’s celebrate their second birthday.

If you want to get your hands on the drink made with vodka, passion fruit, orange juice and topped with whipped cream, it will set you back €5.
