A group of Irish friends decided to give their soon-to-be-married mate one last send off, but the groom’s only wish was that ‘he didn’t want a stag-do’. So the lads went out on the lash with a cardboard cut-out of the groom-to-be.

A JOE reader by the name of Mikey Curran recently dropped us a mail telling us all about his mate Alan’s stag-do, but it certainly wasn’t you’re average night on the town…

“One of our mates moved over to America recently to get married and his one request from his friends before doing so was that he ‘wouldn’t have a stag do’. Naturally we were outraged and decided to have one anyway,” Mikey told JOE.

However, as Mikey said himself, “you can’t have a stag do, without a stag”.

Thankfully, the lads were able to have one last night out with their soon-to-be-married mate all thanks to a little ingenuity (and a big pair of scissors).

“We immortalised him with a life-size cardboard cut-out. We then took him on the rip in Temple Bar, where he pulled more times than he ever has before and fair to say, he was still standing long after the rest of us had fallen.”

Now that’s what we call good mates. It seems like the lads went to a lot of effort to have a memorable stag for the good friend – even if he wasn’t there to enjoy it in person.

So how was the night in question? “Never a dull moment, but Big Al (the stag) did look quite board at times,” said Mikey.

Mikey’s story is JOE’s Eye story of the week, in association with Magnet.

He’s now in with a shot of winning €250 by the end of the month.
