PICS: Irish girl that’s living in Spain goes to incredible lengths to get a Chinese from a restaurant in Louth

Paul Moore

You have to admire the commitment.

Chinese food from your local restaurant is usually the perfect way to round off any weekend, but let’s be honest, the majority of us are usually too lazy to walk around to the local restaurant at times.

This is definitely not the case for Nicola Ní Shúilleabháin though because she went the extra mile (a fair few hundred of them) to get her hands on some grub.

In her own words;

“Three Irish, living in Spain with serious curry munchies. One of these heads off home for a weekend session with their family and for a weekend full of indulgences, leaving the other two to go hungry in Spain. They get on to the one back home in Louth and sort out what has to be the ultimate plan of the year. A plan that may change the way deliveries are done forever”.

40€ worth of food is bought consisting of; 3 large 3 in 1s with beef, 3 portions of salt and chilli chicken and 3 spring rolls. Little did they know but the short journey from Drogheda to Monasterboice was only the start of its 2788km journey which entailed transport in cars, buses, trains and planes”.

“Destination Granada, southern Spain”.

Here’s Nicola buying the Chinese food from her local restaurant in Louth and packing it into her suitcase to bring over to Spain.

“Many attempts were made to get transportation to the south of Spain- buses, walking and even camels were all options considered. Car share was ultimately chosen.

 Jose, a tropical fruit dealer, was the man for the job and the machine of choice was A 1994 Opel Astra. Some 4 hours passed, both curry and myself were exhausted for what was now a 10 hour trek through what felt like the Sahara desert as the Spanish plain was scorching with unheard of 30 degree heat this early into May”.

“Plates clashed, tears were shed and nails were bitten while the 3 minutes each plate took to circulate beneath the radiation of the modern microwave”.

Feast your eyes on what’s being served up.

What happens next is known to many, fond of a Friday night sesh which leads to the Chinese after but never to date has anyone ever felt the sheer satisfaction of the oh so f*cking delicious and scrumptious and tasty and unreal and mouth watering experience”.

“Our story will hopefully be shared with many for generations to come, to teach our young that nothing, not even 100ml restrictions on containers, can stop you from achieving your goals. Like the inspirational artist Eminem once said… “You can do anything you set your mind to man!”

Did they enjoy the meal? You bet they did!
