POLL RESULTS: Here’s what JOE readers think about lifting the Good Friday alcohol ban

Carl Kinsella

The results are in.

A joint campaign launched by the Licensed Vintners Association & Vintners Federation of Ireland today proposes lifting the restrictions on the sale of alcohol on Good Friday.

Publicans and retailers take a sales hit on the Good Friday of each year, but there is particular promise to this proposal given that this year, the Good Friday restrictions would mean that alcohol sales are limited during the 1916 commemorations.

We asked our readers how they would feel about lifting the ban on the sale of alcohol on Good Friday, and while our 1,854 voters did not quite speak with one voice, the verdict is clear.

The No side were outvoted 2-to-1 by people who’d like to see the ban lifted. It might not be the unanimous decision that some would expect, but it is certainly a landslide.
