Quit To Fit week 5: Treat yo’ self, you’re halfway there!

We have reached the fifth week of our 10-week challenge.

When you started out on this journey, it’s probably safe to say that you saw it as a mountain to climb. Even if it has actually felt like an uphill battle, it really is just a case of putting one foot in front of the other.

Five weeks in, you have officially reached the halfway point. That in itself is a solid accomplishment.

Don’t think of yourself as being halfway to being smoke-free. Really, you’re just five weeks into your new life as a non-smoker.

Quit To Fit week 5

It’s important to realise how far you have come. Your body is likely already reaping the rewards of a smoke-free life, but now it’s time for your mind to take stock of your success.

Just like last week, life coach Raul Aparici wants to give you a few words of wisdom. This is a major milestone, and it’s an opportunity for you to take a proper look at the fruits of your labour.

“We are halfway there and that is no easy feat; well done. While you may notice many different subjective ways in which you are making progress, there is an objective measure of success which is also the easiest one to quantify… cash in your pocket! Smoking is an expensive habit, more so than you may have been aware of,” Raul said.

If there is one benefit that is sure to be music to just about anyone’s ears, it’s having a bit of extra cash on the hip.

Time to take stock

“Add up all the money you have saved so far and you are bound to be pleasantly surprised. Celebrate your success by treating yourself to something nice with some of this cash. You have worked really hard for this money, spend it wisely,” he said.

“What kind of rewards are we talking about? Think body positive, healthy, empowering. Maybe it’s time for a fresh shave at the barber’s, or a spa day with a massage to soothe your aches and pains. Or perhaps you can stretch to a weekend away?

“Think creatively about what would feel like a nice reward; have you ever thought about having guitar lessons, or learning a new language? How about having a personal shopper take you around a store?”

“The key is that the reward must mean something to you personally and it feels both as a pat on the back and an encouragement to be a better, more rounded human being. And if you can’t think of anything, treat a loved one! It feels really nice to give to others, kindness is its own reward.

“The main focus here is to keep going, stay focussed and not drop the ball,” he said.
