REMINDER: Here are the dates you need to have your presents posted by this Christmas

Carl Kinsella

Don’t leave it until the last minute.

An Post has reminded the Irish public of the deadlines for posting presents over the Christmas period. Given that Ireland has such a wide diaspora and huge ex-pat population, there are a lot of concerned mammies, daddies and friends who will be looking to send care packages abroad over the festive season.

The postal service notes that presents and packages “ought to be in the post this weekend and all post offices are open on Saturday mornings, offering full range of mail and money services and advice. 18 December (next Monday) is the latest date to be sure of card delivery to mainland Europe in time for Christmas.”

18 December is the final date guideline for UK deliveries, and 19 December for Northern Ireland.

The final date for guaranteed delivery within Ireland is 20 December.

In a statement, An Post wrote: “Parcel volumes have doubled since last year. We advise customers to always use full postal addresses, to write clearly, seal all items carefully and to use lots of wrapping paper and tape on parcels. A return address on all items will allow us to safely return items that cannot be delivered.”
