Is it pronounced scone... or scone?

For years, debate has raged as to how tor properly pronounce the afternoon treat: do you say it scone, like it rhymes with 'gone', or scone, as if it should rhyme with 'bone'? It's a fiery argument. It can be brutal. It causes mass embarrassment if you used the "wrong" pronunciation in a public place. We've longed for an answer... so it's rather handy that this poll has just provided us with one. According to their latest research poll, the correct (most popular) pronunciation was scone so it rhymes with 'gone'. Now, we happen to think they're wrong and it should rhyme with 'bone', but that's the kind of thinking that got us here in the first place.   Incidentally, when was the last time you ate one?
