Serial Season 3 has arrived and it is very different to the podcast you remember

Rory Cashin

Fans of the show will notice some big changes.

The first season involved the still-active case of Adnan Syed, and was pretty much the podcast that helped kick off the love of murder-mystery, true-crime shows.

The second season, involving Bowe Bergdahl, the American former prisoner of war who disappeared from his post in Afghanistan in 2009, was less positively received.

And now, at long last, the third season has arrived, and it is VERY different.

The producers described the new show as follows:

“Serial is heading back to court. This time, in Cleveland. A year inside a typical American courthouse. This season we tell you the extraordinary stories of ordinary cases. One courthouse, told week by week.”

Original host Sarah Koenig now shares narration duties with This American Life personality Emmanuel Dzotsi, and will be delving into a different story each week.

Two episodes of the third season have been made available so far, with the first titled ‘A Bar Fight Walks Into The Justice Centre’, and is described as “A young woman at a bar is slapped on the butt. So why’s she the one in jail?”

The second episode is titled ‘You’ve Got Some Gauls’, and is described as “When a judge believes he knows you better than you know yourself.”

Sounds intriguing, no?

As per usual, the show is available on all of the usual podcast suppliers, or you can head to the Serial website to download directly and learn more about each episode.
