WATCH: Surely this is proof that spiders in Ireland are getting bigger

We're not sure everyone would be as calm as this man.

Where are these monsters coming from?

Arachnophobia is no laughing matter. Especially when the spiders in Ireland appear to be growing in size year on year.

It may be our imagination getting the better of us, but in years gone by, we don’t remember the spiders in Ireland being this big, or this big.

While we don’t have definitive proof per se, this latest one seen in Donabate, Dublin is once again making us edgy about closing our eyes in bed tonight.

We know that old urban myth about swallowing eight spiders a year in your sleep is false, but that doesn’t stop us thinking about the bloody thing.

Derek Branigan revealed to JOE that this little beggar came up through his sink and started scuttling along the worktop in his house. Spiders are a common occurrence in his house, but he hasn’t seen any quite this large in his house before.

His poor kids were a bit freaked out about the size of the eight-legged fiend, but Derek calmly put it in a jar and let it out in his garden.

We’re not sure everyone would be so calm in the same situation.
